Elizabeth Robbie

A North American Soccer League team owner who was the first female team owner in professional soccer.

Robbie and her husband Joe owned an NASL franchise from the 1972 season through the end of the NASL in 1984. They then owned the same team, playing in the Major Indoor Soccer League, for an additional four years.

The Robbies’ team played from 1972 through 1976 as the Miami Toros, from 1977 through 1983 as the Fort Lauderdale Strikers and from 1984 through 1988 (in the NASL and MISL) as the Minesota Strikers. It reached the NASL championship game twice, losing to the Los Angeles Aztecs in 1974 and the New York Cosmos in 1980. As the Fort Lauderdale Strikers, it reached the NASL playoffs seven years in a row.

The Robbies also owned the Miami Dolphins of the National Football League for many years.
