AMERICAN SOCCER LEAGUE II - NEW ENGLAND DIVISION The second American Soccer League established a New England-based division which operated between 1933 and 1941. During this time, the established teams of the league (based in New york-New Jersey-Philadelphia) played in the Metropolitan Division. The New England Division folded during the War and was briefly reestablished in 1951-1953. Little is known about the divisions, and the second incarnation was borderline at best. Many thanks to Mark Pollak for providing this information, which he gathered from various editions of the USSFA annual media guides and the Providence Journal, and the 1951-1953 information was gathered from editions of the North American Soccer Guide. 1933-1934 (fall 1933; thru 12/23/1933) GP W T L GF GA PTS Fairlawn Rovers 16 12 1 3 52 28 25 Boston Celtics 15 10 2 3 50 28 22 Thornton Victorias 15 6 5 4 32 27 21 Pawtucket Rangers 14 8 3 3 38 19 19 Fall River Rovers 15 5 4 6 25 27 14 New Bedford Defenders 16 6 2 8 39 51 14 Fall River United 14 4 2 8 32 45 10 Quincy Canadians 15 2 3 10 24 58 7 New Bedford Tessiers 14 2 2 10 24 42 6 (spring 1934 - through March 23) GP W T L GF GA PTS Fairlawn Rovers 3 3 0 0 7 3 9 Thornton Victorias 3 1 1 1 6 6 3 Boston Celtics 1 0 1 0 3 3 1 Quincy Canadians 1 0 1 0 2 2 1 Pawtucket Rangers 1 0 1 0 2 2 1 Fall River United 2 0 1 1 5 6 1 Fall River Rovers 3 0 1 2 6 9 1 1934/35 (fall 1934 - through 1/13/35) GP W T L GF GA PTS Pawtucket Rangers 12 10 1 1 36 12 21 Portuguese Sport Club 12 5 1 6 24 25 11 Pawtucket Celtics 10 4 1 5 22 34 9 Thornton Victorias 11 4 0 7 16 22 8 Boston Soccer Club 9 2 1 6 20 25 5 (spring 1935 - through 4/24/35) GP W T L PTS Portuguese Sport Club 4 4 0 0 8 Boston Soccer Club 3 2 0 1 4 Pawtucket Rangers 2 1 0 1 2 Pawtucket Celtics 1 0 0 1 0 Thornton Victorias 3 0 0 3 0 Championship: Portuguese defeated Pawtucket Rangers 1-0 1935/36 {Season Cancelled} 1936/37 {as of 5/24/1937} GP W T L PTS Providence 11 9 0 2 20 Lucitania Recreation 11 7 4 0 14 Boston Celtics 10 5 4 1 11 Swedish-Americans 9 5 4 0 10 Thornon Vics 11 3 4 4 10 Moores 8 2 5 1 5 Pawtucket 8 2 6 0 4 Fall River Americans 11 1 8 2 4 St.Michaels (standings unknown) 1937/38 GP W T L PTS Providence 17 11 2 4 26 Thornton Vics 17 10 3 4 24 Boson Celtics 16 8 4 4 20 Lusitania Recreation 17 9 6 2 20 Lusitano 17 7 5 5 19 Swedish-Americans 16 7 7 2 16 Springfield 16 3 8 5 11 Scandanavians 16 3 11 2 8 Moores 16 2 11 3 7 Pawtucket FC 3 1 2 0 1 [per 10/4/37 Pawtucket Times] 1938/39 GP W T L PTS Boston Celtics Lusitania Recreation Pawtucket FC Swedish-Americans Scandinavians 1939/40 (As of 12/17/1939) GP W T L GF GA PTS Lusitania Sports Club 9 5 3 1 29 15 13 Swedish-Americans 9 6 1 2 21 16 13 Bird & Sons 8 4 2 2 26 16 10 Lusitano Recreation 8 3 3 2 23 18 9 Boston Celtics 9 3 1 5 13 18 7 Pawtucket FC 7 2 2 3 19 20 6 Scandinavians 8 0 0 8 11 87 0 Lusitano Sports Club also known as Lusitano Gremio 1940/41 (standings as of December 29, 1940) GP W T L GF GA PTS Pawtucket FC 11 9 1 1 46 15 19 Fall River 10 9 1 0 37 5 18 Gremio Lusitano 9 5 2 2 31 18 12 Scandanavians 11 4 7 0 22 47 8 Lusitania Recreation 11 3 7 1 20 29 7 Boston Celtics 11 2 7 2 20 41 6 Swedish Americans 9 0 7 2 8 29 2 The New England Division folded at the end of this season.
