Gino Gard

A goalkeeper who was a member of the United States squad at the 1950 World Cup in Brazil.

Gard was born in Italy, and was named was Gino Gardassanich before he moved to the United States. He played from 1949 to 1959 for Slovak, which was one of the outstanding teams in the National Soccer League of Chicago, and reached the final of the National Amateur Cup in 1953 with Slovak. Despite not playing in the 1950 World Cup, he did see some action against foreign competition that year. He was the goalkeeper for the Chicago all-star team that played Hamburger SV of the West German first division the month before the World Cup.
