James Gentle

A forward who was a member of the United States squad at the 1930 World Cup in Uruguay.

In 1930, in addition to playing, Gentle also acted as an interpreter for the United States team, because he spoke Spanish. Gentle, who was from Boston, played for the Boston Wonder Workers in the 1925-26 American Soccer League season, and was playing for Philadelphia Field Club at the time of his selection to the World Cup squad in 1930. He later won a bronze medal in field hockey at the 1932 Olympic Games and was an officer in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a U.S. trade and industry representative in the American zone of Germany after the war.
