August Steur

An official of the German-American Soccer League of New York for decades.

Steur, who was born in Germany and emigrated to the United States in 1923 at the age of 21, was involved with the German-American League in various capacities, including president, from 1924 until his death in 1969. He served as Honorary Commissioner of Public Events for the City of New York in the 1950s and ’60s and as an advisor on immigration matters to President Lyndon Johnson.
