Fred Netto

President of the United States Soccer Football Association from 1950 to 1952.

Netto’s work with the USSFA included serving as a member of the United States delegations at the World Cup qualifying tournament in 1949 in Mexico City and the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki. As part of the US delegation to the 1950 World Cup in Brazil, Netto witnessed the 1-0 US victory over England, which he later described as the highlight of his career in soccer. Netto previously was secretary of the Illinois Soccer Commission beginning in 1939 and was elected a vice president of the USSFA in 1945.

Born in Germany, Netto came to the United States as a teenager, and was an amateur player in Chicago in the 1920s and ’30s.
