An administrator who filled various positions at both the regional and national levels from the 1920s to the 1950s.
Fairfield was president of the United States Soccer Football Association from 1945 to 1948, after having served as vice president from 1938 to 1945.
He served in several capacities in western Pennsyvania soccer, including two terms as president of the West Penn Association and three as secretary of that organization. The last of those three terms as secretary lasted from 1936 to 1950.
During his time as president of the USSFA, he was intrumental in organizing the North American Confederation of the United States, Mexico and Cuba, and represented that confederation at the FIFA Congress in London in 1948.
