Arnold “Arnie” Oliver

A forward who was a member of the United States squad at the 1930 World Cup in Uruguay.

Oliver, who won a National Amateur Cup title in 1926 with the New Bedford Defenders from his Massachusetts hometown, played in the original American Soccer League from 1925 to 1931 with teams that included the Shawsheen Indians, J&P Coats, the Providence Gold Bugs, the Fall River Marksmen and the New Bedford Whalers.

Over the years, Oliver played 108 games in the ASL. His best season in that league was 1927-28, when he scored 27 goals in 44 games for Hartford Americans and J&P Coats, and ranked as the number-four goalscorer in the league.
