The sports editor of the Fall River Herald-News from 1928 to 1979.
McGrath was one of the leading soccer journalists in the country during the heyday of teams from Fall River, Mass.; New Bedford. Mass., and Pawtucket, R.I., in the 1920s and ’30s. That area of southeastern New England had some outstanding teams in the American Soccer League and the U.S. Open Cup in those years, but also had strong teams in regional and national amateur competition. McGrath, who lived his entire life in Fall River, had begun his newspaper career with a rival publication, the Fall River Globe, but moved to the Herald-News in 1928 and stayed there for more than half a century.
Inducted in 1978.
