President of the German-American Soccer League of New York from 1969 to 1975.
Heilpern, who was born in Austria and emigrated to the United States in 1939, had been an amateur player in the Eastern District League in New York from 1939 to 1958 and later moved into coaching and then into administration. During his time as president of the German-American League, he played a significant role in that league’s early association with the North American Soccer League and the New York Cosmos.
Heilpern served as soccer coordinator for the city of New York, helping to develop soccer facilities in the city, and was heavily involved with both the German-American Junior Soccer League and the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association.
