Alexander Wood

A defender who played for the United States in the 1930 World Cup in Uruguay.

Wood, who was born in Scotland and emigrated to the United States as a teenager in 1921, played four full internationals for the United States, three at the 1930 World Cup and one during the trip home from that World Cup.

Before 1930, Wood had  played for midwestern teams such like Chicago Bricklayers, with whom he reached the 1928 U.S. Open Cup final, and Holley Carburetor of Detroit. After the 1930 World Cup, he played briefly for Brooklyn Wanderers in the American Soccer League before moving his career to England, where he played for several different teams before retiring as a player and returning to the United States in 1939.
