Len Oliver

A midfielder who played in the American Soccer League and for first-division teams in San Francisco in the 1950s and ’60s.

Oliver, who won an ASL championship in 1956 with Uhrik Truckers of Philadelphia, was hampered by injuries and illnesses at inopportune times through most of his career, but finally broke into national amateur teams for the 1963 Pan-American Games in Brazil and 1964 Olympic qualifiers.

Oliver also played for Baltimore Pompei and Ludlow Lusitano in the ASL, and San Francisco Mercury. After winning the National U-19 Championship with Lighthouse Boys Club in 1948 and 1949, he went on to be a three-time all-American at Temple University, which he led to a national championship in 1952, and played for numerous U.S. Army teams in Europe in the 1950s.
