1908 Spalding Guide now available

SASH is pleased to announce the 1908 edition of Spalding’s Official Association “Soccer Foot Ball Guide is now available for download.

A PDF version of 1908 edition has never been available before now.

The guide comes to us via SASH member Dave Lange, author of Soccer Made in St. Louis.

Dave made scans of an original print copy of the 1908 Guide given to him by Tim Brassil. Tim’s grandfather, Dave Barrett, wrote the St. Louis section in the annual guides.

Other editions of the Guide published between 1905 and 1923 have previously been scanned and made available by the Library of Congress and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

The Spalding Guides are invaluable resources for research in early US soccer history. Links to download all available editions of the guide in PDF format are available via the Online Resources page on the SASH website.

Also available for download is Spalding’s Athletic Library How to Play “Soccer,” published in 1909.

We are grateful to Dave and Tim for allowing us to make these invaluable research resources available to the public.
